Costa Rica 2023

**TICKETS WILL GO ON SALE MAY 25, 6:00AM**

This is a relaxing trip that involves mountain biking.  This is NOT an epic mountain bike trip that will crush your soul every day.  If you are worried about mileage or heart rate or crushing as many miles as possible, this is not the trip for you. 

We will ride trails, encounter iguanas along the way, have monkeys hang over our heads and have epic views.  We will spend time relaxing and enjoying each others company. Sipping drinks on the beach and by the pool.  You will have meals prepared for you, drinks made for you, and routes planned for you.   I don't know about you, but I'm in!

**times will change due to flight time arrivals. This is going based off of current flight arrival times.

Monday

- 2pm Group arrives to LIR

- 3:30pm transportation to Hacienda Pinilla (timeframe will be given to guests, outside of this timeframe they are

    responsible for cost)

- 5:00pm arrive at Hacienda Pinilla Resort

- 6:00pm dinner at main house

- Bike assembly (we will have tools)

- CHILL! Swim, hangout, etc.

 

Tuesday

- 7am breakfast at main house

- 830-1030am riding around Hacienda Pinilla

   o Group 1: 6-8 miles including ocean view trails and monkeys!

   o Group 2: 12-14 miles exploring technical PNW style trails (black diamond optional)

- 1130am lunch at main house

- 1pm depart for locals only excursion (no social media! )

- 6pm dinner

- Load bikes for morning ride

 

Wednesday

- 630am breakfast at main house

- 730am departure (bring towels, bathing suits, change of clothes)

- 9-11am ride/hike Las Catalinas

- 12pm lunch on the beach

- **Afternoon on the beach in Las Catalinas (boogie boards, SUP boards, kayaks, etc available for rent at your own

   expense…relaxing is free!)

- 3pm departure

- 6pm dinner

Thursday

- 8am breakfast at main house

- 10am departure to Tamarindo

- 12-130pm lunch on water in Tamarindo (el chiringuito)

   o $25 lunch stipend

- 130 depart for house in Hacienda Pinilla

- Free afternoon/evening @ Hacienda Pinilla Beach Club

   o $35 dinner stipend

   o Beach, volleyball, soccer, pool, drinks, dinner or just lounge!

- Bike Rental return

Friday

- 8am breakfast at main house

- 9am bike packing/return

- Free morning!

- 12pm lunch

- 1:30pm depart for sunset Catamaran/snorkel tour

   o Snacks and drinks on board!

- 7pm dinner at main house

Saturday

- 7am breakfast

- 830am departure

- 10am arrive at LIR for check in

- 230pm Flight home!

What do I bring?

 Bike!

 Helmet

 Bike Shoes

 Bike Gloves

 Bike Glasses

 3x bike shorts, jersey (or riding top), socks

 2L (minimum) hydration pack + water bottle for electrolytes

 Sunscreen (it’s HOT)

 Hat

 Flip flops

 Bathing suit, tankini, bikini, thong, whatever you’re into!

 Phone/watch/garmin/gopros (and their chargers!)

 H20proof pouch for devices (optional for catamaran trip)

 Beach attire, shorts, tanks, sarongs, etc.

 Cash (US cash is accepted, we recommend $50)

 Credit Card (debit cards are not recommended)

 PASSPORT – expiration longer than 6 months (email color photo of Passport to erin@muddypedals.com)

What we will provide:

Skratch electrolytes & trail snacks

 Meals (or a stipend for meals)

   o 3x day (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)

   o 1x day (Monday & Saturday)

Transportation to and from airport (if within timeframe of xxpm-xxam)

   o Timeframe for arrival and departure to be detwermined as we get closer

FAQ:

Can I fly my bike?

Please! There are limited rentals in Costa Rica. We will coordinate a time in Baltimore to help pack bike bags (packing party!).

 Southwest is $75 each way to fly a bike (or free if under 50#...we hear!)

Can I rent a bike?

 There are limited rentals through the local bike shop. Please contact us to see if your size is available. Rentals will be $330/3 days with 15% discount (give or take depending on the bike that is rented). You will rent through Bike Craft in Hacienda Pinilla.

Can I rent a bike bag locally?

We have 2 bike bags available to rent, we are working on finding more. You are welcome to call around shops as well!

   o $75 for the trip

Will my phone work?

   o There will be WiFi at the main house

   o Most companies provide an international plan for about $10/day if you’d like full service

Can I drink the water?

  o Yes! 

Is US cash accepted?

   o Yes! They will give you change in Costa Rican Colones, but they are happy to have the green paper!

Will my health insurance cover me in Costa Rica?

   o Please contact your health insurance company for clarification.

Is Trip Insurance Available?

Is that a gorilla howling in the trails?

o No, it’s a howler monkey, look up! They are cute and friendly, just loud!

Is that beautiful plant with a pretty pink center safe?

   o NO! The leaves that have prickers hurt (we know from experience) and the prickers are where ants live. The plants are pretty from a distance…

As a rule of thumb, do not go off the trail!

   Per the locals, everything off the trail is pokey, possibility of snakes, but the cows, horses, monkeys, and iguanas really want nothing to do with us.

What are the sleeping arrangements?

   o This trip will have shared queen beds.

   o Main House

       Room 1: 1x king (This is for Mrs. Muddy Pedals and the intern)

       Room 2: 2x queen

       Room 3: 1x queen

   o Villa (on same property)

      Room 4: 2x queen bunkbeds (8 people)

      Room 5: 2x queen

What is the trip cost?

$1999 (flight and bike transport/rental not included)
